CMONVIN > Whisky Macallan 1955 Fine and Rare 46 Year Old #1851 ENQUIRY Contact Customer Service ENQUIRY The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was 'Maghellan', which came from the Gallic word 'magh', which means fertile soil, and 'Ellan', from the monk St Fillan, which was closely related to the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had already been making whisky on their Speyside farms for several centuries. This was distilled in 1955 and then bottled 46 years later from single first fill, Spanish oak sherry hogshead #1851. 70cl/45.9%
