CMONVIN > Whisky Macallan 18 Year Old Fine Oak pre 2008 ENQUIRY Contact Customer Service ENQUIRY The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher. The original name of the area was 'Maghellan', which came from the Gallic word 'magh', which means fertile soil, and 'Ellan', from the monk St Fillan, which was closely related to the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had already been making whisky on their Speyside farms for several centuries. The Fine Oak series from Macallan was launched in 2004 and featured "triple matured" expressions, vatted from a combination of sherry seasoned European oak cask, Sherry seasoned with American oak, and Ameican oak cask seasoned with bourbon casks. 70cl/43%
